I am a great fan of Akshay Kumar but the way he was presented in this movie or the entire 90ies made me realize why until a decade ago the industry was ruled by SRK and not him. Karisma’s subtle makeup and smart attires according to me gave her an edge over Madhuri. On the contrary Karan Johar’s costumes for SRK made him look one of the best ever. Her clothes despite beautiful Indian wear were either very loose or misfit and her makeup was also not so natural. I preferred her over Madhuri frankly as I don’t think Madhuri’s dress designers did a great job in this film. I although was most impressed by Karisma Kapoor and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say it was her best performance and she never looked more beautiful.
The standoff between Madhuri and Karishma was thr first of its kind and is still remembered.
Never before in Bollywood, dancing was given so much prominence and this film was a landmark in this respect. The film became popular not just because it was a SRK-YRF alliance post DDLJ but also for its amazing choreography by Shaimak Davar and melodious music by Uttam Singh. The plot is a love quadruple where Rahul and Pooja are being loved by their best friends and how finally they meet, fall in love and get united is what forms the rest of the film. This movie looks fresh even after over two decades and its a delight to see these amazing actors in their younger days all over again.
